FULL DESCRIPTION

If you’re looking for one of the most beautiful views of Paris 🌆 then you absolutely must discover the one from the top of theArc de Triomphe.

TheArc de Triomphe is a neoclassical version of the characteristic elements of Roman architecture. At a height of 50 meters, the platform at the top of the Arc offers an incredible view, and the climb is well worth it 💪. You’ll see dozens of Parisian avenues radiating out from this monument towards the City of Light. Paris is one of the most fascinating places in the world, and you’ll be at the center of it!

Inspired by the great arches of ancient Rome, Napoleon commissioned theArc de Triomphe shortly after his victory at Austerlitz. Unfortunately, he didn’t live to witness its completion, but that’s what happens when you design something this elaborate. You’ll find relief sculptures at the base of each of the four pillars, soldiers carved in a frieze around the top, and the names of 128 battles and 558 generals. It may have taken thirty years to build, but it was well worth it 🏛️.

At the base of the arch, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier pays tribute to the 1.3 million French soldiers who died in the First World War. The Unknown Soldier was buried in 1921, under the eternal flame 🔥. Every evening at 6:30pm, the flame is rekindled 🕯️.

There’s also an exhibition at the top, and your ticket for theArc de Triomphe will give you access to exhibits and models that explain the symbolic importance of this monument. Don’t forget to take a look 👀 after you’ve been to the top, or before you take the final steps up to the panoramic roof.

Wondering how to get to the center of the traffic circle where theArc de Triomphe stands? Don’t launch yourself into the middle of Parisian traffic 🚗 there are staircases on the north side of the Champs-Élysées that lead to pedestrian tunnels. Use them and avoid the embarrassment of getting hit by a scooter 🛵.
